Our founders
Although Dr. C. Darius Stonebanks has been the consistent strength behind the campus effort, he has always been quick to point out that along with other professors, students, activists, professionals, and volunteers, three key people made the campus come to life. These founders are:
Mr. Japhet alexander ChiwandaOtherwise known as Chief Makupo. After many years of establishing a friendship with Dr. Stonebanks, Mr. Chiwanda came up with the idea of a permanent space where people could come together and discuss local needs and explore potential solutions. His vision was a space constantly changing and adapting to meet new emerging needs. Sadly, Mr. Chiwanda passed away in 2023.

Chief chilowa
The elder sister of Senior Chief Kaomba. It is on her generously donated land that the campus resides. Chief Chilowa has been a steadfast supporter and protector of the vison and mandate of the campus and is active in securing its ongoing success. She is our Traditional Authority liaison and our problem solver through a strong ethic of care.

Mr. Ahmad Jahan
An integral source of financial support, via his Ahmad Jahan Foundation. The “seed money” he donated allowed us to create an infrastructure of collaboration between Malawian and international partners, that went well beyond the typical format of “build and leave” school models. Mr. Jahan passed away in 2022, leaving our organization and community forever grateful for his kindness, generosity, love of children and his willingness to listen to our vision.
